A day by the creek21:35:00
Yesterday was a really lovely day.
Cam's parents have recently acquired a new property you see and Friday just gone was settlement day.
We all thought it would be nice to have a bit of a picnic to mark the occasion as well as getting some manual labour out of the way in the way of lighting the big old tree stumps lying around the block and some fence removal. The neighbour from the farm, Les also came out to help for a part of the afternoon.
Pauline found us a lovely spot by the creek surrounded by some majestic River Red Gums where we set up camp for the day.
Hugh found adventures around every corner. He helped Cam and David pull out fence posts, he helped roll up old fence wires, he lit some fires, he got to play in the ute and his favourite, driving in the tractor.
Edie was a dream. She is still recovering so that probably made her little bit more quiet than usual, however she was happy playing in the porta-cot, and sitting up on everyone's lap taking all the conversations in.
Its always a highlight when you are out and the kids are happy and behaving. However the real highlight of the day personally for my lovely self was when Edie fell asleep in the pram and Hugh was out in the tractor with Cam. Yes that's right, I had a whole entire hour of peace and quiet. On this gorgeous day, under the shade of those magestic River Red Gums and I was all by myself.
Ok I lied, I wasn't totally by myself. l had the lovely company of Pauline and well, we found a chilled bottle of Tarzali Sauvignon Blanc which of course helped the situation and we chatted about everything and nothing, we watched a Mud Lark in its nest and the flittering about of a Willy Wagtail. Bliss!
The boys made progress on ripping up the old fence line and did a little bit of
The smoke haze across the paddock also meant success with all the little fires in order to clear the tree stumps lying strewn across the paddocks.
Hugh ended up a having a little splash in the seasonal creek after all his hard work. I was thinking that it would be great to come back to this spot on a hotter day and have a swim myself. I quickly changed my mind after the biggest leech I have ever seen tried to latch onto my leg. Then I thought that I might stick to flowing water in future for my cooling off dips!
Leeches aside it really was a great family day out and I'm sure it wont be too long before we are out there again. Maybe in a different spot next time. There is certainly a lot of work to be done out at the block.
Have you got a favourite spot some place where you like to have a picnic? Tell me about it I would love to know.
