The Windmill Paddock

All's well, ends well.

08:44:00

Our darling poppit caught herself a bout of gastro for her 1st birthday. How unfortunate is that?

She is safe in knowing however that because of my mother's wisdom, she wont remember a thing. Not her helplessness nor her sad, 'what the hell is happening' to me look on her face. How we had to cancel her little soiree' with all her little buddies or the time and effort Cam and I put in for the birthday cake. What dramas and what a day it was.

It wasn't all doom and gloom. I promise. It was actually a very lazy and quiet day and the birthday girl slept quite a lot. Now I know its only her first birthday and all, but I do like to recognise these little milestones and I do love a little social gathering here and there so I must say I was slightly disappointed that it had to be like this yesterday.

Lucky she was a 110% better by the evening and we were able to make our regular trip to Pop's house for Friday night 5 o'clock drinks. I also bought along the cake. Heck, I wasnt seeing out the day without singing happy birthday to E on her birthday! I even bought sparklers! Nothing by halves here.

You shall see from my cake decorating skills that I am no fancy schmancy cake baker. I don't love cooking, but ill give things a go when the occasion suits and lucky for E this one suited. It is a cheats version of a rainbow cake. I will confess I used Greens cake mix and Betty Crocker icing. That did require effort! Have you tried that icing stuff? It smothers on beautifully and tastes nice too! Rather than the rainbow theme due to a lack of food colouring options, I thought i'd go a pink theme and make each layer lighter than the other. It actually worked and looked alright.

Did I mention we had sparklers? We also had rides and we had a little bit of wine for the adults too. It is such a lovely spot sitting out on the back deck at Pop's. That beautiful tree just makes it so nice and summery cool. I wish I knew what it was?

Edie got spoilt as usual from us, her grandparents, her godparents and her great aunt. She loves her new Cabbage Patch doll.

So all in all, gastro aside, Edie ended up having quite a lovely day.

Im going to now go and sneak a piece of that cake. Ill instagram my creative, cake layering talents. Check it!

Farm stuff this weekend as well as our new babies hatching.

What is the best cake you have cooked/ decorated for your kids?
How good are sparklers?

Thanks for visiting today
Have a great weekend.

You will most likely find me either pottering out in the garden or out walking with the kids. I solve all the worlds problems over good wine and coffee. I dream of a huge island bench in my kitchen, a swimming pool and endless sunshine. Country living really is the best.
