A Year of Flowers: April
08:30:00
Hello to you all and a hello to the rain.
The garden can finally rejoice here and I can stop watering. Well, for the short term at least. We have had 100 mls over the weekend and I couldn't be happier.
We are well and truly into May which is just ridiculous isn't it?
Life is certainly busy here in the Paddock and is whizzing by and I really haven't been doing much in the garden on a regular basis except for raking the leaves, collecting and planting a few seeds here and there as well as keeping on top of the weeds.
As you know we are moving house so I am in maintenance mode rather than any planning mode here.
If you have been following along, you would have seen here that we spent one sunny day transplanting a few plants out at the farm and I am very happy to report that they; the Clivias, Camellias, Hellebores and Iris' are all growing and shooting new and healthy foliage. The Hellebores dont even look like I split them at all. Gardening wins all round here and Im about to plant some Spring bulbs in some of the sunnier spots. They are currently getting tricked into winter in the veggie crisper in the fridge.
The weather has continued to be very warm so far this month with plenty of cold mornings to kickstart the day. These of which I have not been liking too much, however the cooler weather certainly has kicked all the deciduous trees into gear and its been lovely watching the town and our own front yard change with the new season.
It really is a lovely time of the year and I will be sure to lap up these last few weeks before Winter sets in.
Here is what was flowering in April.
More pretty Marigolds. I have saved a heap of seeds and they have also been sprouting away in the pots and veggie pots where the seeds have blown and dropped to the ground. I highly doubt that they'll survive once the frosts hit, but we shall see.
Precious Dahlia blooms. I will be digging the tubers out on the next sunny day here and then storing them in the shed. These were from my neighbour and I just love the colour of them.
Basil flowers. I have been collecting these seeds and this is the last of the actual leaves out in the patch. Did anyone else know that the seeds have the sharpest and tiniest little prickles on them! A word of advice; wear gloves if you are collecting them too.
I just read a brilliant post from Jo at Country Life Experiment on saving the leaves up and freezing them to use them throughout winter. I wish I had read it earlier as I had so much it was ridiculous.
The succulents too have been star performers and now as the weather has cooled, I have noticed they are all growing new shoots like crazy in the beds and pots.
Very quiet here for the month of April but will be time to enjoy the Daphne soon and this is what I am looking forward to the most for Winter. Mmmmmm!!
So tell me what have you got flowering at yours?
Thanks for visiting today.

Good to hear the Clivias, Camellias, and Hellebores survived the move. I have been thinking of buying a Camellia, but I'm not sure it would survive our winter. Still thinking about it ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe are in full spring mode over here, my garden is full of colour. Lots of rhododendron flowers, allium, lily of the valley. It is wonderful right now. Not too hot, birds singing everywhere. Enjoy your Autumn, my second favourite season ;-)
