Garden Diaries - Evening Inspection

21:25:00

Hello there and how would you be?

We are all well here in the paddock after spending a nice quiet day at home. As with most Thursdays I spent much of the day tidying up the house. The kids play outside and I work my magic inside.

My new household nemesis are these tiny little insects that can fit through the fly screens. They come out on mass when the nights are warm and like moths are drawn to the lights on in the house. We left our bedroom light on the other night whilst watching tv before bed and oh man, the bugs on the roof above our bed was a sight to be seen.
These bugs seem to get everywhere. They stick to the condensation on the bathroom roof after a shower, they get in the pantry, in the kitchen draws and on every window sill in the house. Thankfully the vacuum cleaner handles them very well!!

Whilst I am pleased with my efforts today, and how good is it to walk bare foot on freshly mopped floors by the way, everywhere I look there are still so many jobs to get done. It never ends!!

Outside the house is no exception. Though I did manage to get outside this morning to plant the Jacaranda tree that my old neighbour gave to us and tidied up the Hellebores that flourished over the winter. The kids and I also checked the pots in the veggie patch, picked some delicious strawberries. and pulled out all the weeds growing amongst the Basil seedlings.

Now this fine evening, with dinner done, the kids bathed and sitting quietly watching a DVD, I thought id sneak outside earlier and take a few pics to update you on some of the things that are going well out in the garden.

It really is amazing what a good soaking of rain and some sunshine can do.

The Salvia tubers I planted only about six weeks ago have tripled in size and some have these pretty purple flowers already.

The slugs are a menace here and have had a good munch on nearly all the new Dahlia shoots. This one hasn't been discovered yet, hence the snail pellets everywhere. They need another 2-3 cms of height on them all and then I think they'll be safe from being eaten. Thankfully the eaten shoots all seem to grow back alright once you kill the snails.

I transplanted this rose from the front garden of our old place and wacked it in, straight on the lawn at the end of winter. The foliage and flowers are so much healthier now in its new home and even Cam thought it was a nice specimen.  If only I knew the name of it?

Rosemary cuttings from our old place. I will be hedging these somewhere near the veggie patch to attract the bees.

We have apples!!
 ...and tomatoes.

 ...and very good strawberries.

All the succulents in the pots and hanging baskets are sprouting pups.

Zinnia seedlings just about ready to go out into the garden and veggie patch. Im having so much luck with seeds here this year!

Zygocactus blooms.

Hanging baskets full of colour.

I saved that many Cosmos seeds from the veggie patch last year, the kids and I have scattered them all over the place and this lot here are looking very healthy indeed amongst the Roses and Iris at the back door. My saving seed efforts have paid off. Ive even had success with the Basil seeds.

 Hydrangea season is here. Yay!!

New quaint, purple Iris in bloom.

Hopefully you had a chance to get out there and enjoy your garden too.

Any bugs a nuisance at your place?
What plant is giving you joy in your garden now?

Thanks for visiting
Elisha xx

You will most likely find me either pottering out in the garden or out walking with the kids. I solve all the worlds problems over good wine and coffee. I dream of a huge island bench in my kitchen, a swimming pool and endless sunshine. Country living really is the best.

All your garden looks lovely - so many lovely plants! I'm a bit jealous - I have been sadly lax with my garden for the last six months and so I have nothing but a few passionfruit growing! Well that and the weeds. Got to get back into it. So maybe you will have inspired me!
