The latest news in the vineyard.15:58:00
How are you all on this fine Saturday afternoon?
Its been rather quiet here and mundane, as far as the every day stuff around the house and the kids go, with nothing extra ordinary to report.
The kids and I have mostly settled into our new kinder and school routines which is going well, though we are all working out within ourselves how to deal with our new found tiredness and brain drains at the end of each day. That is taking a bit to get used to as you can imagine!!
The farm continues to roll along in its seasonal rhythms and we have calves being born, grapes ripening and a rampant vegetable garden to attend to. The kids and I rounded up one of our poor old cows into the cattle yards this morning to pull out its calf that had gotten stuck. The kids were amazed of course with the proceeding birth but we were all quite sad that the calf didn't make it. Thankfully the mother was A OK!!
The vineyard is rolling along and Cam has been busy wrapping down and pruning the new Shiraz grafts. The nets are all on what needs to be covered and it looks like we are only 2-3 weeks away from starting harvest. Its all happening. I actually made the effort to go out and check the Shiraz grafts wth Cam last Sunday and took a few pics which I thought id share on the blog today.
(this bunch is from last years grafts)
I received an email yesterday from a disgruntled customer who thought our Tempranillo was flat and likened it to tasting like water. We haven't received any bad reviews to date so I was initially taken a back as you can imagine. I graciously accepted his review by regarding it as valid but only a mere opinion in the subjectiveness that is wine tasting and that I hoped he found the perfect bottle of Tempranillo soon. What else can you say? I certainly know what I could have said!!! Where do people find the time really?
On a positive note, the weather is just perfect in these parts at the moment with cool mornings and warm, sunny afternoons and my Dahlias are blooming mightily proudly.
What more could you wish for really?
Whats been happening in your parts?
